-----Accompanying Videos----- Interactive modal sound synthesis using generalized proportional damping Auston Sterling and Ming C. Lin http://dx.doi.org/10.1145/2856400.2856419 --Objects and Naming-- The videos are named according to the object being dropped and the damping model used. The prefix of the name is the object: bpp: Big porcelain plate domino: Series of dominos with different material properties mp: Metal plate, a thin aluminum baking tin pb: Plastic bowl, a fairly thick and rigid bowl pc: Plastic cup, a measuring scoop pob: Porcelain bowl ps: Plastic scoop, a thin and flexible dog food scoop spp: Small porcelain plate stSG2: A heavy tile used in flooring wSW3: A short block of wood wSW5: A longer block of wood The suffix of the name is the damping model (as a function of eigenvalue) used: rayleigh (r): Linear damping model, c = a1 + a2*eig caughey (c): Quadratic damping model, c = a1 + a2*eig + a3*eig^2 power (p): Power law model, c = a1*eig^a2 --Videos-- The videos used in the user study can be found in the userstudy subdirectory or in userstudy.zip. The plastic scoop (ps) videos are included here, but were not used in the user study because the overly simple frictional contact model resulted in awkward sound. In these videos, the objects are dropped on a flat plane which does not create any of its own sound. The desk subdirectory and desk.zip contain additional videos of objects being dropped on a wooden desk, which creates its own sound. The domino videos can be found here. --Full Citation and BibTeX-- Auston Sterling and Ming C. Lin. 2016. Interactive modal sound synthesis using generalized proportional damping.
